DJ Moore speaks out about Matt Eberflus firing
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore wasn’t surprised that Matt Eberflus was fired.
NFL players aren’t all that different from NFL fans sometimes. In the case of the Chicago Bears and embattled former head coach Matt Eberflus, the players in the locker room, much like the fans, were apparently counting down the days until the Flus was cut loose.
Star wide receiver DJ Moore appeared on WSCR-AM Monday and said Eberflus’ dismissal wasn’t a surprise.
“As the season was going, you just kind of figured that was going to happen,” Moore said. “Thursday at the end of the game was the last straw, I feel like.
“They did [fire him]. Now we got [Thomas Brown] as the interim head coach, and we’re going to go out there and play for him.”
The promotion of interim head coach Thomas Brown will be fun to monitor over the next five games. Since taking over as offensive coordinator over the last three weeks, he’s certainly gotten the most out of Caleb Williams and the offense, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can have the same impact on the defense, special teams, and, ultimately, the outcome of games.
“We’re just going to get this thing turned around, and a leader of men is going to be in here for the next coach,” Moore said GM Ryan Poles told him.

As for Eberflus, Moore left little doubt about who he thinks is at fault for the Bears’ Thanksgiving meltdown, when Chicago failed to take a timeout on the last drive of the game and instead let the clock run out instead of attempting a game-tying field goal.
“I feel like the coach has got to call a timeout and regroup us,” Moore said.
The Bears are now left to regroup for the rest of the 2024 season.
