Proposed Jalen Ramsey trade would give Bears a massive defensive boost
The Chicago Bears already have one of the NFL’s most talented secondaries, but this proposed trade would make it undeniably the best.
The Chicago Bears boast a secondary that already features Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Jaquan Brisker, and Kevin Byard II. It’s undeniably one of the best overall units in the NFC, but a recent three-team trade proposal could turn it into the undisputed best in the NFL.
In this hypothetical deal orchestrated by Bleacher Report, the Bears land Miami Dolphins superstar Jalen Ramsey.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter left little doubt this week that Ramsey will be traded, making a projection like this, while potentially far-fetched, not completely out of the realm of possibility.

In this deal, the Bears send left tackle Braxton Jones to the Browns, who send cornerback Greg Newsome II to the Dolphins, who ship Ramsey off to Chicago.

Uh, yeah, that qualifies as a no-brainer for the Bears, especially after they selected Ozzy Trapilo in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. There’s a real chance that Trapilo will unseat the rehabbing Jones for the starting left tackle role, making an addition like this — if Bears GM Ryan Poles can swallow the massive payroll expense — a move he’d have to strongly consider.
A Chicago Bears secondary that features Ramsey and Johnson as the outside corners would be downright scary and would thrust this team from fringe playoff contender to a club that warrants serious Super Bowl attention.
Sure, Ramsey is on the wrong side of 30, but the seven-time Pro Bowler is still playing at a high level and would provide an upgrade over Tyrique Stevenson, whose unreliable style of play has cost the Bears mightily in 2024.
I wouldn’t bet on the Chicago Bears making a blockbuster trade like this so close to the start of 2025 training camp, but if Ramsey can be had on the cheap, Poles would be foolish not to make a call.
