If you’re one of those Chicago Bears fans who were hoping for a fast start on offense, you’re not going to like the reports from Day 1 of training camp.

Caleb Williams threw an interception.

Ben Johnson benched the entire first team.

Yep, it wasn’t pretty.

While this may be frustrating news for some Chicago Bears fans, others will appreciate the intensity that Johnson is bringing to the practice field.

Attention to detail at this time of year should help reduce the number of on-field mistakes when the regular season finally begins.

Notice another concerning nugget? Rookie wide receiver Luther Burden didn’t participate in the first day of practices, extending his streak of missed time as he acclimates to life as an NFL player.

According to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, Burden continues to battle a hamstring injury.

Not great.

But it wasn’t all bad news for the Chicago Bears’ rookie class. First-round pick Colston Loveland was on the practice field as part of his ramp-up period after missing the offseason program due to shoulder surgery. He should be full go very soon.

Second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo got some first-team love, too.

“Ozzy Trapilo was at left tackle with the 1s during team periods,” ESPN’s Courtney Cronin said. “All 3 – Trapilo, Jones and Amegadjie – were out there today, and the Bears rotated the 3 tackles through during walk thru periods.”

As for that Caleb Williams interception? It was made by linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who has a chance to make good on his massive contract now that he’s in Dennis Allen’s defense.

Other notable practice nuggets as shared by reporters on site for Day 1:

-Case Keenum got the first crack at the QB2 role. Tyson Bagent was QB3.

-Rookie CB Zah Frazier missed practice.
