Bears dubbed potential trade destination for Cowboys star Micah Parsons

The Chicago Bears defense could have a pass-rush problem in 2025. It’s not that they don’t have any talented edge rushers. Montez Sweat has All-Pro potential and should end his first year in Dennis Allen’s defense with double-digit sacks.

But every good defense needs a rotation of edge rushers who can flood the field on passing downs. The Bears added Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency with the hopes he’ll fill the role opposite Sweat. But with only Austin Booker as a depth option, Chicago could quickly find itself in a predicament.

It’s why the Bears will be connected to trade speculation for any top edge rusher who’s unhappy with his contract, the latest of which is Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons.

In a new hypothetical from Bears on SI’s Matthew Schmidt, the Bears should think long and hard about making a Godfather offer to the Cowboys for Parsons, who’s still waiting for a new deal.

“A tandem of Parsons and Sweat would be lethal along the edge, and the Bears could also employ Odeyingbo as part of the group, as well,” Schmidt wrote. “Chances are, Dallas would want to trade Parsons out of the NFC if it did decide to move him, but if Chicago were able to put together a strong enough offer for the four-time Pro Bowler (a package that would probably include Booker and draft capital), the Cowboys may be willing to listen.”

That draft capital, Schmidt is referring to? Yeah, it’s probably at least two first-round picks. And to pay a premium like that, general manager Ryan Poles must believe the Bears are one player away from making a Super Bowl run.

Maybe he does believe that. Perhaps the Kool-Aid that came with Ben Johnson’s hiring as head coach has led the Bears’ front office to believe this team is closer to winning a championship than most analysts think.

And, look, that’s great if they do believe that. Bears fans certainly do. However, one team’s desire to make a trade isn’t enough; it takes two teams to make the trade happen. In this case, I highly doubt Dallas will let Micah Parsons go — even if the Bears make an offer most teams couldn’t refuse.
