Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown defends Caleb Williams against the haters
A rival opponent has Caleb Williams’ back when it comes to unfair criticism on social media.
You won’t find a tougher division in the NFL this year than the NFC North, and when they hit the field, these four teams are fiercely competitive in some of the league’s most bitter rivalries.
But that doesn’t stop some of the best players in the division from recognizing greatness on a rival team, or coming to their defense against unfair criticism.
That’s what happened earlier this week when Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown defended Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams against the horde of haters on social media.
Alongside his co-host and brother Equanimeous St. Brown, and special guest (Bears wide receiver) Rome Odunze, St. Brown railed against the unfair reaction Williams gets online, regardless of whether he plays well or not.
“No matter what he does, good or bad, it’s all on Twitter. It’s like…he can’t breathe,” St. Brown said. “They can’t just let him be. I feel bad sometimes.”
You can see the full clip here (video contains profanity), including Odunze’s response in agreement with St. Brown’s assessment of the unfair criticism his quarterback takes on a weekly basis.
You can bet than when these division rivals are facing off against each other twice this season, they won’t be quite so friendly between the lines. But otherwise, they clearly respect one another both on and off the field, and can’t understand the level of hate Williams gets regardless of his performance.
