Chicago Bears
WATCH: Ben Johnson’s play-calling genius shines through on Bears’ late TD
This play design from Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson was a thing of beauty.
The Chicago Bears were on the wrong side of an epic comeback Monday night, as they let a 17-6 lead slip away in the fourth quarter on their way to a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in front of their home fans.
But despite the sour finish, the Bears made a late push to get back into the game in the final minutes, aided by an absolutely elite play design and call from head coach Ben Johnson.
Trailing by two scores just outside the two-minute warning, Johnson dialed up a diabolical play that gave quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze what will likely be the easiest touchdown connection of their entire careers:
Johnson’s play design had the Vikings’ defenders in an absolute blender, bouncing back and forth between two different run fakes before realizing that Odunze had sneaked past them all into the back of the end zone for the easy scoring toss from Williams.
There are plenty of things the Bears need to fix after Monday night’s crushing collapse in the fourth quarter that cost them a critical home win against a division rival, but it’s clear that the play-calling prowess of their new head coach is already living up to the hype, and will lead to plenty of victories in the near future.
