Ben Johnson is tired of answering questions about Bears’ Week 1 loss
Ben Johnson is ready to move on from Monday night’s loss, but the questions about some of his decisions keep coming from the media.
The Chicago Bears are just two days away from trying to avoid an 0-2 start against NFC North opponents, and head coach Ben Johnson is more than ready to move on from his team’s crushing Week 1 defeat.
But questions are still coming from the media on the heels of that 27-24 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, and Johnson isn’t thrilled.
During Friday’s press conference, a reporter started to ask a question about Johnson’s decision to try and put a kickoff out of the end zone in the final minutes of Monday night’s loss, instead of just dropping it short of the landing zone to ensure the clock stopped, and he wasn’t having it:
Johnson did allow the reporter to finish the question, and provided a clear and concise answer, but it’s clear he was frustrated by the inability to move on from last week’s loss to the current task ahead of his team Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Could Johnson have saved valuable time on the other side of the two-minute warning by ordering a short kickoff instead of trying to send it out of the end zone for a touchback? Sure. But it still would have left the Bears defense with a tall task of keeping the Vikings from moving the chains to end the game.
Hindsight is 20/20, and Johnson admits he “got greedy” with his decision in that moment. But there’s nothing he can do about it now, and it’s time all parties focused on the next game, which could have huge implications on the Bears’ chances of making a playoff run through a tough division this season.
