Ben Johnson gives ominous update on Rome Odunze’s foot injury
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson address the status of wide receiver Rome Odunze, and it doesn’t sound great.
The Chicago Bears were expected to get wide receiver Rome Odunze back for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, but things didn’t go as planned.
Odunze aggravated his foot injury in pregame warm-ups, causing him to miss a blowout win over the Cleveland Browns.
As the Bears prepare for Saturday’s critical rematch against the Green Bay Packers, head coach Ben Johnson gave an update on Odunze’s status, and it doesn’t sound great:
This definitely sounds like Odunze could be headed for a short-term stint on injured reserve, which would knock him out for the rest of the regular season, as well as the first round of the playoffs.
That would obviously be a huge disappointment, but as a second-year player and a top-10 draft pick, Odunze’s bright future needs to be prioritized.
The Bears also have the benefit of a loaded group of pass-catchers, with rookies Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III stepping up alongside veteran DJ Moore. That group is more than capable of holding things together while Odunze takes the necessary time to heal up.
We’ll see what happens from here, but don’t be surprised if we don’t see Odunze on the field for a while.
