Bears’ offense takes big hit ahead of Week 17 Sunday night clash vs. 49ers

The Chicago Bears (11-4) need all hands on deck in Week 17’s Sunday night battle against the San Francisco 49ers (11-4), but it looks like that won’t be the case.

We already know that star wideout Rome Odunze will miss his fourth game in a row with a foot injury. And, now, right tackle Darnell Wright — who’s quickly become one of the best right tackles in the NFL — is in jeopardy of missing Week 17 with an illness.

According to Chicago Sun-Times beat reporter Jason Lieser, the Bears have had six players miss time this week due to the viral outbreak.

Chicago activated rookie Luke Newman from reserve/injured, and it’s expected that Theo Benedet will start at right tackle in Wright’s place if he can’t play.

At this point, it seems next to impossible for Wright to suit up. He didn’t travel with the Bears to California, and it’s highly unlikely he’ll make a miraculous recovery and arrive in time to play.

The good news for the Chicago Bears is that the 49ers’ pass rush has had a rough year. They’ve recorded the fewest sacks in the NFL this season (18). Nick Bosa’s injury is a big reason why.

Still, losing Wright will put more pressure on Caleb Williams to make magic happen in and out of the pocket.
