Bears’ RB D’Andre Swift gives blunt answer on what 1,000 rushing yards means to him
Chicago Bears RB D’Andre Swift didn’t mince his words when discussing what reaching 1,000 rushing yards in 2025 means to him.
NFL players routinely talk about team over personal goals, so it was refreshing when Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift spoke honestly about reaching 1,000 rushing yards in 2025.
Swift was a popular target in the offseason for Bears fans who were searching for an upgrade on offense. That’s ancient history now.
Swift enters Week 18 with 213 carries for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns (4.9 yards per carry). He’s two rushing yards away from a new career high, and his nine touchdowns are already a career best.
And don’t get it twisted: Swift is very happy about his year.

“It means a lot,” Swift said, via ChicagoBears.com. “I’m not going to sit here and sugarcoat it. It means everything. If a back tells you it doesn’t mean a lot, he’d be lying to you. As a running back early on, 1,000 yards is kind of that benchmark, like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right. I’m on the right path.'”
Refreshing, right?
“To be able to do that with this group of guys and with the type of year that we’ve been having as a whole, I’m just honored — honored to be able to contribute every single week and to reach that benchmark,” Swift said. “We’ve still got another game to add to it, so I’m excited for that as well. That’s one I’m not gonna sugar coat and one that means a lot.”

Swift and rookie running back Kyle Monangai have combined to form the NFL’s third-best rushing attack, averaging 149.1 yards per game.
The Bears’ revamped offensive line certainly deserves some credit, too.
“Identity starts with the guys up front, and I feel like when you’re talking about being in a running back room, we don’t get talked about if they’re not doing their job up front,” Swift said.
