Why Caleb Williams isn’t satisfied after breaking Bears’ single-season record

First, the good news. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams broke Erik Kramer’s 30-year-old record single-season passing record in Week 18.

Williams’ second season in the NFL ends with 3,942 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 7 INTs. His 27 TDs fell two shy of Kramer’s record of 29.

The bad news? Williams’ quest to become the Bears’ first-ever 4,000-yard passer fell 58 yards short. But that’s not what frustrated Chicago’s franchise QB the most. Losing to the Lions in the season finale did.

“Not good enough,” Williams said after the game. “Not good enough to win this game. Not good enough to win most other games.”

Even on a record-setting day, Williams’ team-first mentality shone through. All that matters now is for the Bears to find a way to win four games in a row.

“Use this frustration,” Williams said. “Having back-to-back losses, use this frustration and find a way to get better. It doesn’t matter if we win the next game by one or whatever the case may be. (But) find a way to give us an advantage to be able to win the game.”

Bears coach Ben Johnson emphasized this theme after Sunday’s loss, too.

“We’ve got a new season on the horizon,” he said. “Our guys should be reinvigorated by that. I know I certainly am. I’m looking forward to the opportunity and all that that entails.”

Indeed, the first game of this new season is in the Wild Card round against, yep, you guessed it, the Green Bay Packers.

The NFL’s oldest rivalry will take place on Saturday night on Amazon Prime.
