Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears offense didn’t have much success last season with Matt Eberflus as their head coach, but they’ll get the chance to show him just how much they’ve improved since when the Dallas Cowboys come to town Sunday.

Eberflus is now calling the shots for the Dallas defense, and after an 0-2 start, Williams and the Bears are desperate for their first win of the season, especially after the embarrassing way they’ve dropped their first two contests.

Speaking to the media this week, Williams was asked about facing his old head coach this week, and he illustrated the impact the storyline is having on his preparation:

There was plenty of blame to go around in Chicago last season, and with Eberflus being more of the defensively minded coach, it’s hard to lay a ton of it at his feet when it comes to the offense’s struggles throughout Williams’ rookie campaign. That said, some of the game-management decisions made by Eberflus were questionable at best, and definitely made things more challenging for his rookie quarterback than necessary.

Who knows whether or not Eberflus’ presence will have any significant impact on the way Williams approaches Sunday’s game, or how he performs, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the second-year quarterback has just a little part of him that wants to beat his former head coach and deliver a stellar performance.
