Is D’Andre Swift holding back the Bears’ running game?
Despite solid blocking up front, the Chicago Bears aren’t maximizing opportunities on the ground, and their starting running back might be the problem.
After an 0-2 start to the 2025 season, it’s clear the Chicago Bears have a long list of problems that are holding them back, but blocking in the run game doesn’t appear to be one of them.
That doesn’t mean they’re making the most of their success in the trenches, though.
Despite having plenty of room to work with early in the play, starting running back D’Andre Swift isn’t turning those holes into consistent production:
The rest of Chicago’s backfield has been banged up to start the season, with rookie Kyle Monangai and returning backup Roschon Johnson both dealing with injuries over the past couple of weeks. That’s left Swift to handle the majority of the snaps, and while there have been a few flashes of big-play potential, the numbers prove he’s still not maximizing the space his offensive line is giving him.
Swift is supposed to be the more explosive, slashing runner in the backfield, but it sure looks like he’s leaving a ton of yards on the table. Here’s hoping he can step his game up and figure out a way to turn his strong blocking into more consistent production on a weekly basis.
