Ben Johnson has healthy respect for Jayden Daniels’ running ability
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson knows Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is a dangerous threat as a runner.
The Chicago Bears are getting ready for a much-anticipated rematch against the Washington Commanders this week, as they look to avenge last year’s crushing loss on a last-second Hail Mary touchdown with a victory Monday night.
If they want to come away with the win, one thing the Bears will have to do is slow down Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, particularly when it comes to his ability to create big plays as a runner.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson is well aware of the danger Daniels poses when he decides to run the ball:
Daniels rushed for 891 yards and six touchdowns a rookie last season, but his numbers have been down a bit this year, in part because of missing multiple games due to injury. In last year’s win over the Bears, Daniels rushed the ball eight times for 52 yards, averaging 6.6 yards per attempt.
It looks like the Commanders could be without star wide receiver Terry McLaurin yet again this week, which could lead Washington to put even more emphasis on Daniels’ rushing ability to help create big plays for their offense.
The Bears have been one of the worst teams in the NFL this season when it comes to stopping the run, so if they want to score a big win Monday night, that will have to improve in a big way.
