Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson

The Chicago Bears had a tough time creating explosive plays last season, but the arrival of Ben Johnson as head coach and offensive coordinator has changed that for the better.

Through the first five games of the 2025 season, the Bears have already generated 15 more big plays on offense than they had through the first five games last year:

Johnson’s arrival has obviously had a massive impact on the play of quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. An upgraded supporting cast has also helped, with a bolstered offensive line and the emergence of young playmakers like Rome Odunze, also a top-10 pick in last year’s draft. Throw in a strong start to the season from veteran running back D’Andre Swift, and you’ve got a recipe for a much more explosive Chicago offense.

Hopefully, Johnson and the Bears will be able to keep this trend going the rest of the season and beyond, finally bringing a consistently dynamic offense to a fan base that’s been desperate for more points and chunk plays.
