Ben Johnson gives honest take on working with Caleb Williams
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson talks about what it’s been like to work with quarterback Caleb Williams this season.
The first year of Ben Johnson as head coach of the Chicago Bears has been full of positives, including the development of quarterback Caleb Williams.
In his second NFL season, Williams has showed marked improvement from his rookie campaign, and Johnson’s presence surely has plenty to do with that.
Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Johnson was asked about what it’s been like to work with Williams this season, and he gave this honest answer:
When he was coming out in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams got plenty of credit for his rare arm talent and physical gifts. But clearly, Johnson has been just as impressed, if not more so, by the mental side of Williams’ game. His ability to self-scout and hold himself accountable is the kind of intangible quality that coaches will always love.
Williams’ upward swing in development is a huge reason why the Bears are fighting for an NFC North title and a potential No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff bracket. After watching him struggle through his rookie year with a lesser coaching staff, Johnson and his crew deserve their share of the credit for his improvements.
