Should Kyle Monangai replace D’Andre Swift as RB1? Here’s what Bears fans think
Bears fans are debating whether Kyle Monangai should replace D’Andre Swift as Chicago’s RB1. Here’s where the fanbase stands on the backfield battle heading into Week 13.
The Chicago Bears have one of the NFL’s most productive rushing attacks after 12 weeks of the 2025 season. In fact, Ben Johnson’s group ranks second in the league with 142.3 rushing yards per game.
The Bears have come a long way since the offseason, when Bears Nation pegged D’Andre Swift as one of the 2024 starters who should be replaced with an early-round 2025 NFL draft prospect like Ashton Jeanty or TreyVeyon Henderson. And while the Bears didn’t invest a Day 1 or Day 2 pick on a running back, April’s draft did produce one of the team’s most productive rookies at the position: seventh-rounder, Kyle Monangai.
After Week 12’s performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when Monangai outplayed Swift by a significant margin, questions have begun to circulate about whether the former Rutgers star should be anointed the Bears’ RB1.
As a result, I decided to ask Bears fans how they think the Bears’ running back depth chart should look.
Here are the results:
Seems pretty clear to me: Bears Nation wants Kyle Monangai to be ‘the guy’ moving forward.
Kyle Monangai trending as Bears’ RB of the future
Monangai’s emergence has been one of the Bears’ more pleasant surprises in 2025. He totaled 99 carries for 461 yards and four touchdowns entering Week 13; his 4.7 yards per carry is the kind of efficiency Johnson wants out of his running backs.
Still, D’Andre Swift deserves some flowers, too. His 142 carries for 649 yards and four touchdowns (4.6 yards per carry) is the kind of production that GM Ryan Poles expected from the former Georgia star when he signed him to a three-year, $24 million contract in 2024. But after Swift ran eight times for 15 yards and a fumble against the Steelers, it’s anyone’s guess how the running back pecking order will go in Week 13’s showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
At least we know who Chicago Bears fans want carrying the rock.
