Caleb Williams aced his 2024 NFL Combine media session. Any questions about his personality or ability to take command of a room were answered (and passed) with flying colors.

There are few, if any, questions about Williams on the field. He’s the most talented quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. But is he an artist or a surgeon?

During Ryan Poles’ media appearance, the Chicago Bears general manager said that the Bears have two buckets of quarterback prototypes, artists, and surgeons, which sparked debate about which one Williams belongs in.

“There’s artists, and then there’s surgeons,” Poles said. “So within that group you can kind of see who’s the artist, that’s really creative, doesn’t draw within the lines, where there’s more of surgeons who are like your typical like the (Tom) Bradys and Peytons (Manning). Kind of branch them out of those buckets and go from there.”

Williams said he’s a little bit of both.

“I’ve actually heard that about the artist or surgeon thing,” Williams said from the NFL Combine Friday. “I like to think that when it’s time to be surgical, it’s time to be surgical. There’s been many games where it gets late in the game and I’ve ran or scrambled and threw a crazy pass. That’s being the artist, the magician. And there’s been times where even I hurt my hamstring and couldn’t run, I sat in the pocket the whole time the rest of the game and delivered the ball.”

It makes sense that Caleb Williams is equal parts artist and surgeon. It’s that unique skill set that’s carried him throughout an incredible college career and, now, the expected first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Barring a crazy turn of events, the Chicago Bears are expected to select Williams with the first overall pick on April 25.
