Bears’ Caleb Williams training with two high-level NFL starting QBs
Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams will spend the next month learning from two starting QBs
Chicago Bears franchise quarterback Caleb Williams routinely impressed throughout rookie minicamp, OTAs, and mandatory minicamp. The No. 1 overall pick is now on a midsummer break (alongside the rest of the roster) before the Bears open their 2024 training camp on July 23rd.
Williams will train furiously until then. The former USC standout’s personal QB coach, Will Hewlett, discussed the signal caller’s plans for the coming month, which include working out with multiple starting NFL quarterbacks. Hewlett confirmed Williams will be working out with Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, and Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts while making an appearance on 670 The Score’s Parkins & Spiegel Show.
On with @ParkinsSpiegel, Caleb Williams’ quarterback coach @WillHewlett was insightful in detailing what Williams will be working to improve in the coming weeks before training camp — including his footwork and cadence.

“Our guys tend to chop it up and share some stuff together when they’re together,” Hewlett, who works with Williams, Purdy, and Richardson, said, adding: “Brock [Purdy], I’m sure will chop it up with Caleb on his experiences and how he’s worked through things. And so will Anthony Richardson too.”
Working with Purdy and Richardson could provide Williams with the best of both worlds when it comes to quarterback examples. Purdy is a high-level precision quarterback with pinpoint accuracy and advanced football I.Q. Richardson’s 2023 rookie season was cut short to four games due to a season-ending shoulder injury. But the 6-foot-4, 250-pound QB is an athletic dual-threat specimen that ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Williams would ideally love to combine Purdy’s mechanics and accuracy with Richardson’s athleticism. He carries that sort of potential as a quarterback that can win both inside and outside of structure. Williams” pending offseason workouts will position him for an excellent training camp showing.
